cbvf
critical moist Brunt–Vaisala frequency (in 1/s^2) triggering the convective parameterization.
The used definition of the moist Brunt–Vaisala frequency, bvf (also in 1/s^2), is described in Konopka et al., GMD, 2019 (equation (A7)).
If the value of bvf for the air parcel in the lowest CLaMS layer is smaller than this critical value (bvf<cbvf), this air parcel can experience convective uplift
(i.e. if the calculated convective uplift delta theta is larger than min_dtheta, see below).
Typically, cbvf=0 is set.crate
In order to study the importance of convective overshooting, the calculated convective uplift delta theta, can be multiplied with parameter crate.
default: crate=1.min_dtheta
Critical value for the convective uplift (in K).
If the calculated uplift of the air parcel, delta theta, is smaller than min_dtheta, nothing happens.
In this way too small uplifts are suppressed, e.g. uplifts where air parcel would stay within the lowest layer of the model approximating the planetary boundary layer (PBL)DC_kind
The diagnostic variable DC is set to 1 if the air parcel experienced convective uplift
DC_kind=0: DC is reset to 0 at the beginning of deepconv
DC_kind=1: DC is not reset and is a cumulative measure of all parameterized convective events
(default: DC_kind=0)timestep_deepconv
deepconv time step in hours
